Over 20 of Cayman’s finest athletes took to the starting line for this year’s 2023 Cayman Cycling Road Race Championship.
From the get-go, the Road Race Championship presented by the Catalyst Group, promised to be a high-octane battle of stamina, strategy, and sheer willpower, with the conditions intense and the action absolutely electric.
Attack after attack came thick, fast, and early as the competitors vied for supremacy in both the Elite and Masters races. In the Elite race, an incredible attack three-quarters of the way into the first lap of four established a dynamic lead pack, consisting of Michael Testori, Victor Magalhaes, and Denver Casayuran. These cycling titans pushed themselves to the absolute limit, gaining a considerable time gap. But that’s not all – in an equally thrilling Masters race, Jamie Hughes and Jeremy Solomon escaped from a strong field, to build a one-minute lead.
Despite valiant efforts from their competitors, neither group would be caught. When the dust eventually settled, there was no doubt about it: Michael Testori had added yet another notch to his belt by winning the Road National Champion title. Across in the Master’s division, Jamie Hughes’ strong finishing performance, saw him claim top honors in the race, with Jeremy Solomon following behind in second place, claiming the coveted National Champion’s jersey as the highest-placed Caymanian. Rounding out the podiums, Lewis Bromby again took the win in the Juniors division.
It has been nothing short of amazing to watch all our local athletes compete with such passion and determination throughout this championship. We’re already looking forward to next year’s edition and expecting even greater things from the Cayman’s best!
