Victor Magalhaes and Kevin Connolly joined some of the best riders from the Caribbean, North, Central, and South America for the 2023 Pan American Cycling Championships in Panama City, Panama.

As the highest-level cycling-focused event in the region, this is an essential annual race for our athletes as it serves as a qualifier for the 2023 Pan Games. It will also provide valuable experience for our athletes against the top cycling talent from North, Central & South America and the Caribbean region.

Individual Time Trial

The 40km individual time trial on Wednesday, April 19th, saw a day of exhausting racing and fierce competition. Despite great displays of determination and resilience, both Team Cayman athletes, Victor Magalhaes and Kevin Connolly, struggled on a grueling course in scorching conditions. With temps reaching 93 degrees, the heat was clearly a factor, with Victor battling injury but still giving everything he had to complete the 3 lap circuit. Starting over an hour later, Kevin faced the hottest section of the day and was ultimately forced to retire after two laps with dehydration.

Road Race

Sunday saw Team Cayman compete in the Elite Men’s Road Race at the 2023 Pan American Cycling Championships held in Panama. The competition was fierce, but Victor Magalhaes and Kevin Connolly, gave it their all and showcased their commitment and determination – ensuring their nation was represented with pride throughout the race. We couldn’t be more proud of their dedication to their sport and country. Efforts like these continue to make us proud as a country on an international level and we look forward to seeing how these inspiring athletes continue to represent the Cayman Islands in the world of cycling.
